About
Simple WHOIS answers one question fast: is this domain taken? If it is, it shows who it's registered through, when it expires and what has changed.
Where the data comes from
We ask each domain's own registry, using RDAP where the registry offers it and classic WHOIS where it doesn't. DNS records come from a public DNS resolver. Answers are cached for a day, so a record can be up to 24 hours old.
Some registries hide details for privacy, and a few publish nothing at all. When that happens we say so instead of guessing.
Your searches stay yours
Looking up a free domain is often the first step of a new idea. We never show anyone which unregistered names were searched. Lookup counts and change history only appear on pages for domains that are already registered. The privacy policy has the details.
From the command line
curl simple-whois.app/example.com prints one line: Available, No data found in our database, or Taken followed by the registration date and how many days until it expires.
From AI assistants
Simple WHOIS is also an MCP server, so Claude, Cursor and other AI tools can check domains for you, one at a time or up to 50 at once. Add https://simple-whois.app/mcp as a remote MCP server. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http simple-whois https://simple-whois.app/mcp
